Bike shed construction

Another season, another shed. How much storage does one need? The clearing of the garden revealed such a large space underneath the thick trees that an additional shed seemed to be the obvious thing to do, in order to store the bikes and lawnmower. I got myself a 3′ by 8′ BillyOh Mini Keeper Overlap…

Clearing up the back garden

You can sometime accumulate a phenomenal amount of junk in your backyard. It will take quite a lot of energy but the result of getting rid of the clutter can sometime be surprising.

Securing the staircase window

This has to be one of the worse place to have a window. I mean, think of it for a second. Anyone tripping in the stairs will have a good chance of falling through the window and possibly have an artery cut by a large shard of glass (you can already picture it happening at…

Fitting new carpet on the stairs – part 2

After cleaning up and making sure no nails are sticking out, I installed the carpet underlay and carpet grippers. I stapled it using a stanley heavy duty gun and used carpet grippers from screwfix. I also installed new threshold bars – which required a generous application of wood filler near one of the doors as…

Fitting new carpet on the stairs – part 1, preparation

In my latest project I tackled the very old carpet on the stairs. Not too difficult to do a better job than what was already in place. After removing the tired carpet came the unique chance to fix the squeaky noise coming from the staircase. I did this by screwing the threads and risers together,…

A productive roof garden

Roof top garden do come with a number of challenges, weight management and health and safety being…

New TV stand

I finished setting up the TV stand. As far as flatpack furniture go, this particular design was really more difficult than the average to set up. Most of the screw were in awkward positions, some needed pre-drilling, etc. I brought quite a lot of cables above the door frames and hid them with some trunking…

Installation of a space-saving wall mounted cabinet

I used 4 ikea bestå wall cabinets. Those are great space saving storage solutions as they are only 20cm deep and you can choose the internal shelves configuration. They also come with different finishes, so I created this checkered pattern.

Shed building – storage extension

I decided to expand my storage capabilities and added a side store to our dunster house shed/summer house. It’s pretty much the same process as that of building the first part of the building.

Shed building – finishing touches

After finishing the roof, I installed the double glazed windows, roof trimmings, doors and floor. A danish oil was applied inside as a preservative. It’s now ready to move in!

Fitting new locks

I recently installed a few locks.  When doing so, one sometime has to face up with the lach having the wrong orientation. When that is the case it is necessary to open the lock and turn the latch around so the door can close properly. This may be a bit tricky because of the spring…

Fixing the toilet roll holder

It’s one of those little fixes that only take a few minutes to make right but you keep pushing back because you think you can “live with it”. In reality, it just builds on the daily stress of having one more thing constantly annoying you. Anyhow this toilet roll holder kept falling off all the…
